Pastor Gordon Quimby, CRE
In April of this year, after an extensive national search, our Pastor Nominating Committee found our new pastor, Gordon Quimby, right here in neighboring Westchester County. He wasn’t hard to find, as he had already been leading our worship services throughout Lent as our guest preacher and worship leader.
Gordon is now serving our church as a Commissioned Ruling Elder (CRE). Simply put, a CRE is a lay pastor. In our Presbyterian denomination, the elders who serve on a church’s governing board, the Session, are known as Ruling Elders. A Commissioned Ruling Elder is a Ruling Elder who is commissioned to serve as a pastor after completing a careful selection process through Hudson River Presbytery and a year of seminary study.
A retired bank branch manager, Gordon brings decades of leadership experience, organizational skills, and a heart for ministry to the pastor role. He has also been a senior leader in an ecumenical Christian renewal organization, Footsteps in the Sand, for the last 35 years, where he currently serves as a mentor to other lay leaders. He says this is a match made in heaven, as he loves the people here at FPC and is excited to see what God will be doing in the years ahead.
